How to: Maintain Motivation

Staying motivated can be tricky. There are however, simple methods to improve daily motivation. One method, and experts agree, is making your bed daily. Making your bed can drastically improve not only your motivation but also, your mental health. Imagine that. Really? A three minute task can increase motivation and lower stress? You should be saying, “sign me up.”

We’ve all been there–dragging ourselves out of bed on a dreary Monday morning. The last thing we want to do is make our bed. It seems silly right? To make our bed only to unmake it to sleep. It can seem pointless, but it’s not.

When you make your bed you are kick starting your mind and giving yourself momentum for the day. That is, when you wake up and make your bed, you’ve already accomplished something within the first five minutes of the day. So, it sets the standard for the rest of the day.

I’ve worked with clients in the past on this task and it drastically improved their motivation & stress levels.

See for yourself how a simple task, like making your bed can have a huge impact. Try it for seven days!

And of course if it happens to be a bed that one shares with another person, it is also the place that you dream together. I suppose that makes for another good reason to make your bed each day. It tells the other person that you love and respect both them and their dreams…. 🙂

    1. Yes that’s what you and grandma always said, and actually is the reason I make my bed every day- to respect the place where my husband and I dream. Although, I’m not sure if its reason enough for everyone else! I think for some it is viewed as a pointless chore.

I can’t stand to not make my bed, only because I’m afraid something will crawl into it and settle down! Looks like I’m doing something good for myself too. Ha.

    1. The thought of anything settling down gives me goosebumps! Thanks for stopping by!
